「Family」

ウクライナには、自分の家の家具を造り、それに装飾を施すという伝統があります。伝統的に様々な鳥や花の模様が施されてきましたが、それらは個々に人の性格を表しています。机や椅子、ベッドの模様はそれぞれ異なっているため、どれが誰のものかがわかるようになっています。 今回の作品は椅子の背もたれを模した板を組み合わせたものです。空に向かっている２つの板は父親と母親（奥と手前）。西欧の墓地では立てられている板や十字架が傾いていることもあり、その連想から、地面に向かって傾斜する２つの板は祖父母を表しています。父母と祖父母をつなぐのは真ん中の小さい板で表されている子供たちです。家族、そして世代をつないでいくのが子供たちなのです。

In Ukraine, it is a tradition that we make our own furniture and decorate it. Various patterns of birds and flowers are decorated traditionally, and they represent the personalities of the makers. The patterns of desks, chairs, and beds are different, so it is easy to know the owners. This wooden work is a kind of chair in which the back is decorated. The two boards which point to sky represent flowers and are decorated traditionally. The patterns are of father and mother. Sometimes boards and the crosses of graves in Europe are leaning. From that association, two vertical leaning boards that go to the ground represent grandfather and grandmother. The little boards between parents and grandparents represent children. Children connect families and generations.
